Pandemic Purgatory

The title kind of sums it up, but I will elaborate on my experience so far.

So it's been a long while since I updated this thing and (I've said this before but...) I intend on fixing that. It seems like a good way to get out what I've been going through this year.

2020 actually started out great! My husband and I took our first cruise over the holidays and we rang in the new year with friends in Lancaster, CA. There was a job opportunity I was waiting to hear back on, but I was hopeful that I got it. (I had three interviews, so I felt pretty good!)

I get back to work and I get the call I was waiting on.... the Minor League baseball team Dayton Dragons have decided to hire me. I had about three weeks to find a place, pack up my life, and make the 32 hour drive to Dayton, OH.

Now, I LOVED my job with the Lancaster JetHawks, but late 2019 came with some uncertainty for the team's future... 2020 may be the team's last season (along with 41 other teams throughout the US) so that's why I even considered looking elsewhere. I wanted to continue my path in Minor League Baseball so I had to make a hard choice....

That decision was even harder because I left my husband and Harrison (one of our fur babies) behind, but a transfer would eventually happen and we decided to actually put some roots down somewhere. Ohio made sense for a lot of reasons, but the biggest draw was how we were going to be a lot closer geographically to our families!

Things were coming together and on January 28th, I said my goodbyes to my husband and Harrison and I hit the road with my friend Karli. We made it to Ohio in just three days! (And no speeding tickets...just a warning in Oklahoma. Below is a screenshot of exactly where we were when we got pulled over, haha)

I couldn't completely settle into my apartment because I had the rest of my stuff coming a couple weeks later, so I got a really uncomfortable futon to sleep on in the meantime!

February 3red was my first day with the Dragons. I was shown to my desk, where they had all kinds of swag ready for me. My favorite part was probably the name plate that said Jamie Martin Business Development Manager. I may or may not have Instagrammed it when no one was looking, haha!

Things were going pretty great. Some problems with noisy upstair neighbors and some issues that needed maintenance, but the job was coming along and spring was right around the corner, which means baseball season is coming too!

Fast forward to mid-March. We were all hearing stories about a possible outbreak. We even brought in our laptops to get the software needed to start working remotely. We were sent home Wednesday, March 18th to start working from home and by end of day March 20th, a lot of us were told we were furloughed.

Furloughed.

Only seven weeks with the team and it's put on pause for who knows how long! I left everything to persue this career. It was no one's fault, which makes it more frustrating.

So about a week after being furloughed, I was watching some tv in the middle if the night.... and suddenly I hear a very loud meow! It's not my babies, it is coming from outside. Sure enough, there is a tiny tuxedo cat outside my sliding glass door. I decided to feed her, outside the door but she wanted in!! Just look at this face, I had to let her in! This is our first selfie. I wanted a good pandemic name that started with an H since my other babies have H names (Harlow, Hendrix, Harrison)

May I present to you Miss Havoc <3

The stimulus check came and went and I had to figure out what to do to survive. I haven't lived in Ohio long enough to get unemployment so I had to become essential real quick.

While in was waiting to hear back from jobs I applied to, I started with the Daily Burn. I needed to lose some weight and I had no excuse now!

I started working at the Dollar Tree part time, stocking shelves at 4am. I enjoy it, I like just seeing how much you can put out in a short shift.

Part time was definitely not gonna cut it, even with hazzard pay, so I had to find something else. I started with a fulfillment center, stowing items. (I'm sure you know what company I'm talking about!) It made me nervous that in just the couple weeks I was there, there were three positive covid cases that I knew of!

I should also note that a dear friend introduced me to the Fitness Marshall and it helped me so much! I was getting bored with the Daily Burn, it just wasn't fun. If you're looking for high energy fun, do yourself a favor and look up the Fitness Marshall on YouTu!

To date, I've lost close to 20 pounds, and I'm very proud of that! Losing weight is never easy, but during a quarantine is a whole new challenge! I have a ways to go, but I'm happy with how my clothes are fitting. It's a solid start!

So now, I'm working from home. I'm selling digital marketing to local businesses. Working from home is hard! It's so easy to get distracted. I will never take for granted the amazing commute though!

My husband finally got to visit last month for a week. It was so nice having him here, in my tiny apartment!

This whole year has been full of uncertainty. I've found ways to keep going but it has not been at all easy. And I'm sure my husband has been annoyed hearing how sad I've been. He is a natural problem solver, and I know he hates that there's no solution to this.

So yeah, I'm here in Dayton... waiting. Still making some new creations when I feel inspired. Thay has been difficult. And since I have a one bedroom, there's no real devoted space for my crafting. And I left a lot of my supplies behind. It feels... incomplete.

Here are a few things I've made. I have some big ideas I just can't seem to execute. I'm sure it will come to me in the middle of the night when I least expect it.

I'm hoping whoever is reading this that you're taking the time for yourself to be well. (As well as possible right now) It's so important to talk through it with someone.

We are all going through it right now. One way I have been staying sane is simply exchanging memes with one of my best gal pals. It's so weird, but it helps!

This turned into a novel, my apologies. I probably should have broken this down into a few blogs. (Maybe I will later)

Goodnight,

xoxo
